I did hope to have the Mrs finished by this post -- and I did get close! All that is left is the black of her hair and I've been putting it off because stitching black on black always drives me (more) bonkers.

after!
Of course, after uploading those pictures I see a glaringly obvious mistake I'm going to have to pick out and ponder how on earth I made it in the first place.
But I do have a different sort of finish!! I will say this -- I scared my husband last night when I screamed at my crochet! I've always loved those crocheted snowflakes and last night I MADE ONE eeeeeeee. It's like a life goal has been accomplished! It looks a little odd because 1) it was my first one and picots are weird, 2) oooooooold crochet thread was discolored, 3) not yet starched. But! I MADE IT!!! *spazzes* I hope I can make a few more before the last class to give to the ladies a little thank-you-for-putting-up-with-me.

eeeeee
Anywhoodle! Last class we learned how to join colors and make granny squares. My granny square turned out surprisingly better than I thought it would've and they were also surprisingly easy once I figured out where I was supposed to be slip stitching. They're also super mindless to stitch. So very little counting and if you don't count, you still get it right because it's obvious how many are supposed to be in what section. At least to me it was.
|
it's almost square!
And I also worked a bit more on my scarf. The color pattern is a bit more obvious now. There will be another section of white ~4 inches wide and then miles of blue until I decide I need to start the end pattern. I'm not a very tall person but I like longer lengths so it will probably wind up somewhere between 60-65" long. I haven't decided if I want tassels on the end yet!

totally long enough now
Welp, that's all from me for the week! I'm excited for the weekend as they're calling for a little bit of snow! I hate being cold without snow, it just seems so mean. Plus it will give me an excuse to stay at home and be buried in my crafts. :b Productive fingers, GOOOOO!
I think your snowflake is cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I thought of all your wonderful ones while I was making it. :D
DeleteWay to go Rosey!!! The wonky snowflake is adorable!! Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteAs for the mrs....I was trying to see what was so glaringly wrong with her.....and still have no idea.
I learned crochet so I could make granny squares :D
Thank you~~~ :D :D :D I'm glad the mistake is hidden but now that I see it I can't unsee it and it will forever drive me crazy until it is gone whahah. I learned crochet for doilies everywhere so the snowflake is one step closer to that :D
DeleteLovely stitching!! I could not find anything wrong in your piece. Your crochet progress is going great !! It's always a great feeling to achieve something new:)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I don't have any idea how this mistake happened but she is escaping her dress haha. I think I'm falling in love with crocheting. I can make so many little things so quickly! :D
DeleteYour snowflake is very cool! Love Granny Squares. You are going to have fun!
ReplyDeleteI am having fun indeed~ :D This class was totally worth it yay! Thanks!
DeleteLovely stitching and crochet x
ReplyDeleteThank you :D!
DeleteLovely crocheting! And I love your monster kitties :) very cute.
ReplyDeleteThank you thank you! I am fond of the whole series of them (I have eight Halloween-ish patterns). They are adorable. :D
DeleteEeeeeeeeee! Do you know the term "block" yet? As in, if you block the snowflake, it will look lacier? If you don't, harass me via twitter.
ReplyDeleteI am familiar with blocking, sometimes something similar has to be done to cross stitch pieces that are done on wranguy fabrics so they are straight! The booklet these snowflakes came from has a little grid you can copy and put on the blocking surface so you can arrange it in the appropriate 6 (or how ever many)-spoke configuration. Only difference is that it gets starched so it stays stiff. :D
DeleteI'll harass you via twitter anyway. Mwuahahaaa.
Ooh, please could you tell me how to starch them?! I'm in the middle of making some snowflakes for Christmas decorations and they're all just a bit curled up at the moment... It's really cheap wool tho so I'm not sure it'll work. Yours is beautiful, I think the colour changes make it look kind of 'rustic'
DeleteThe book I have suggests three ways: 1) store-bought starch found in the crafty section, 2) equal parts craft glue and water (says this is more permanent, and 3) equal parts sugar and water, heated to a rapid boil and then removed from heat. I have some very old doilies that had the sugar water treatment. They hold their shape but aren't unbearably stiff (although that may be age). I will probably use that method~
DeleteAfter perusing the Internet, there seems to be a bunch of different sugar water ratios and instructions. Lol. Guess I'll just pick one. :D
DeleteHehe thanks, I look forward to seeing how it turns out!
DeleteThe kitten is cute:-)
ReplyDeleteRosey, you're smart to crochet!
Thank you, I really adore the Halloween kitty patterns. :D And I am loving crochet!
DeleteLove your crochet work, the granny square & snow flakes look great!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's been so fun picking up this hobby, eeeeeee. :D
DeleteLove all your work! I can't see anything wrong with Halloween Kitty either. Your crochet looks fabulous, no wonder you squealed!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm glad everyone couldn't see the issue which left me feeling a bit tempted to leave it. But it would drive me crazy~~ :D
DeleteSqueeeee! Sorry! Didn't mean to scream at ya! I'm just excited about all of your crochet! It's faboo! Your snowflake is beautiful! Uh oh! Once you start making grannies there's no looking back! ^_^ Your scarf looks lovely. The first thing I ever crocheted was a scarf for mum...who is very short...and the scarf I made is very very long! She has never worn it!! Scandalous ;-) xox
ReplyDeleteOooh granny squares are very addicting! I might even venture into the world of making them while watching TV (this is very hard for me to do, too distracting). You should borrow the scarf back and wear it proudly! A scarf can never be too long~ :D
