S.E.X. Update!

I apologize for the radio silence; near the start of the month we had a trip to Chicago for an extended weekend of family and dinosaurs! We had a lot of fun in the Windy City (I didn't find it windy, how sad~) with going to the awesome Field Museum, eating epic pizza, and finding a Jamba Juice near our hotel.

If I had planned it better, I would have inquired about nifty needlework/craft shops up there as I was completely unfamiliar with Chicagoland. Despite my unfamiliarity, we managed to find a number of Goodwill stores up there, and they yielded a number of exciting finds for my Stash Enhancement eXperience!

Because the phone pics load up so tiny with the app, I'll list what I dug up! :D

I managed to find some white hardanger (12" x 18") for $1 and that is what I use for the Final Fantasy stitches! Next is a piece of ivory 11 count Aida (also 12" x 18") f or 50 cents. I haven't a clue what I'll use it for, but hey, 50 cents! Next is a sheet of navy blue 14 count AidaPlus (9" x 12"), something I've never heard of before. It appears to be regular Aida with interfacing on the back. It's quite nifty but I need to think of a suitable project for it. Lastly, I picked up two small kits, both Christmas decorations. One is a cute Santa crewel kit with a plethora of French knots, and the other is a little kitty under a Christmas tree.

Goodies from Goodwill~

While I had fun with the needlework supplies, I also managed to enhance my "everyday" plate set! I love the Spring Blossom pattern from Corelle and I'm working on acquiring service for eight. I found the large and medium sized plates, and already had the saucers. It seems impossible to find the bowls and dessert plates! Maybe one day! I also found two Farberware saucepan that match the lonely one I picked up at a yard sale a couple of years ago. I love that saucepan so finding the others was squee-inducing! :D

Well, that's all for today's rambles.  I have the next blog hop prompt addressed but I have to wait for the weekend to post it correctly. Too much extra coding necessary to post from the phone. Until then! :D

My new old plates!

  1. XD I find El Paso more of a windy city than Chicago ever was.
I keep forgetting you're collecting that pattern. I saw a mug somewhere the other day. I think it was a mug. Could have been a bowl. If I find it again, I'll send it your way.

    1. Ahaha, yes, I find home is very much more windy... but that might be the season of visiting!

I never, ever, EVER see the bowls! I'm tempted to raid my grandma's kitchen; she got me started on the pattern but wouldn't part from her bowls. Now I know why. :b

I do need more cups now that you mentioned it. I completely forgot to look for them! I don't often see the "hook handle" variety, which is what I have. Maybe I pick difficult things. XD

  2. Glad you had a great trip to Chicago! I've never been there, but sort of feel like I know it a bit from Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden urban fantasy books, if that makes any kind of sense at all :) He calls it "Chicagoland" all the time too!

Congrats on the Goodwill finds - thriftstore S.E.X. is my favourite kind, LOL, as you never know what treasures you'll find! Speaking of which, about the AidaPlus - it was a special line put out in the mid-1990's, I'm thinking around 1993 or 1994 if I'm remembering correctly. I've seen it advertized in back issues of cross-stitch magazines that, you guessed it, I've been lucky enough to score at the thrift store :)

I always thought it looked really neat! In the ads, like the packaging, they show the Aida cut really close to the stitches, like you do with perforated paper, since it's not supposed to fray or tear. It's also used for 3-D things, like I can recall this one ad where a plain piece of it was shaped into a cone and used as the bottom for an angel's dress, while the cross-stitch body and wings were cut-out. Hope that helps somehow!

And OMG - you have my dishes! Er, I have *your* dishes? Either way, I had no idea was the pattern was actually called, so thanks so much! I have some large dinner plates that my Grandma gave me, but she wouldn't part with her bowls either, sadly ;) *cue the spooky music* I have seen a few mugs now and then, but you're right - most aren't the hook handle type, which Grandma still has but I declined to take (never could hold them comfortably, I guess I just don't have the knack). Best of luck in assembling your set!!!

    1. My knowledge of Chicago involved a big lake, wind, and pizza, hah. The lake was indeed very big and I have decided that I need to make a weekly run for pizza 'cause I was dreadfully spoiled while up there.

Ahaha, thrift store S.E.X. is definitely best S.E.X.; it's so much fun to discover something amazing! Thanks for the info on the AidaPlus! I too thought it looked neat and now that I know I can abuse it without fray worries, I just have to pick a project that requires something in navy! Something nautical, no doubt.

YAY, we share dishes!! Yes, they are officially called Spring Blossom, but you can also find a substantial amount under the name Crazy Daisy. There must be a conspiracy amongst grandmothers and their bowls. I suppose they know they're impossible to find so they won't part with them despite being attacked by the innocent grandchild look. :D I can hold the hook cups comfortably but I rarely use them. I tend to use over-sized coffee mugs and they don't come in the pattern. Unless I just haven't discovered them!!

Thanks so much for leaving a comment! I am quite slow at stitching and your kind words are all a wonderful source of encouragement~ :D

I do reply (eventually) via email. If you are a no-reply commenter, I will leave my reply directly on your blog comment! ♥
